Summaries of what we’re learning as we undertake research and design work and press forward with a coherent content strategy. This would include headline findings and promotional material – providing links through to the wiki which should be our repository for the detail.

Following the changes we made to tuition fee content we conducted a round of usability testing to determine whether students’ needs around fees and cost of study had been met. In general, most tasks tested were completed with relative ease however several issues were highlighted that need addressing to improve the user experience further.

When you launch a new website, you can’t help but feel a sense of protective affection for it, and an anxious wish that it will do well in the world. Here’s how we measured the new Tuition Fees site for search optimisation – and what we found.

In January we ran two open-invite sessions to collaboratively review some of the usability testing videos we recorded during November’s Postgraduate Open Day. Nearly 70 colleagues joined us to agree the biggest issues facing prospective students as they tried to establish their cost of study online.

We’ve been conducting lots of user research interviews recently. We transcribe our interview recordings to more accurately reflect what people said but this comes with an overhead. We’ve been trying automated transcription tools to reduce the effort and speed up our work.

As the UX Specialist within the team, I led the guerrilla usability testing at the University’s Postgraduate Open Days on 13 and 15 November. This approach is really quick, cheap and easy to run, and provided a great opportunity for our team to engage directly with prospective students.

We recently spent the day talking to prospective postgraduates and observing them interacting with colleagues during a visit day. It was an eye-opening experience for the team for a number of reasons, and importantly we began putting some important principles into practice.
