On Wednesday 26 May, we’ll be deploying two new content types into EdWeb that allow University staff and postgraduate students to manage their own profile, and for EdWeb editors to create overview pages in their sites that highlight those profiles.

A couple of weeks ago we distributed a short survey to all EdWeb CMS users, and also invited participation from their colleagues who, while not using the system directly, are stakeholders in the management of University websites. In this post, I share the data collected, and provide a little commentary.

Google Chrome’s Page Analytics extension lets users view different data from Google Analytics directly on their webpages. If you’ve never been trained in Google Analytics before and don’t have the time to commit to training just yet, the extension can act as a good alternative to viewing analytics on your site.

At a recent Website Support Clinic, I worked with a web editor who was changing the URL of her homepage. While amending the text is easy enough, it’s important to consider all that’s involved when changing a site’s URL, including how to update the URL for child pages and requesting redirects.

Once again we’re contributing to the annual UK Higher Education web managers conference, IWMW. It’s a great opportunity to learn from and network with colleagues in our sector, and we’re encouraging staff here in Edinburgh to join us at Liverpool John Moores University, 21-23 June.

In March 2016, the University Website Programme was approached by Communications and Marketing for help bringing the interactive campus maps application into EdWeb.

EdWeb’s webforms feature provides an effective and easy-to-use way to gather and organise information from your site’s users, whether they’re registering interest in a programme, submitting applications, completing surveys, requesting information, or providing feedback.

This month’s WPC session focused on the EdWeb Roadmap, campus maps development and included a special guest talk from University-turned-Skyscanner employee David Pier.

As a way of continuing to engage with the web publishing community and all EdWeb stakeholders we’ve been working on creating an easily shareable road map. We want a simple way to share what’s already been developed, what we are currently working on and what could come next.

A few common questions come up at support clinic sessions about EdWeb features and functions, some of which are not always easily answered by guidance pages. This post answers those questions having to do with the behaviour of unpublished content, reusable content and events.
