Event: Understanding undergraduate entry requirement experiences

Join us on Wednesday 10 March to hear what we have learnt so far on entry requirements for undergraduate prospective students, and then help prioritise the areas we should improve.


Since mid November, we have been undertaking research to learn about our undergraduate prospective student’s needs and experiences with entry requirements.

Entry requirements are a top task for prospective students and our research has highlighted issues for key subgroups within our undergraduate audience.

Who is this event for?

If you are involved in recruitment and admissions for undergraduate degrees this will be of interest.

As well as hearing about what we’ve learned, we want your input too. So if you have experience of working with prospective students and answering their queries, we hope you can join us.

When and where

Wednesday 10 March, 1600 to 1700.
A link to a Microsoft Teams meeting will be shared in advance to everyone who books a place.

What we’ll cover

Gayle Whittaker will present an overview of the work so far, key findings and plans for future activity.
There will be approximately 20 minutes for follow up questions.

We will distribute a short follow up questionnaire to give everyone an opportunity to contribute to the prioritisation of the issues covered in the session, and to share any extra experiences or insight they bring from their work with prospective students.

Background

We’ve been focusing our research on entry requirements as it’s going to be the next area for attention in our website enhancement work. Previous user research has highlighted that entry requirements is the number one priority for prospective students when visiting our website.

We focused our attention on undergraduate experiences, because of the nature of how the University processes admissions, and the volume of applications, meaning that improvements would bring the greatest impact here.

Through exploratory research we start by learning who users are, in what context they are using our website and what they need from it. Essentially what they are trying to achieve and how they go about doing it.

We have done a range of activities to help us understand this, which are:

  • Stakeholder mapping
  • Enquiry analysis
  • Google analytics
  • Content audit
  • Desk research
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Stakeholder workshop

Your help

It’s important that we work in the open and communicate the research findings to give you the opportunity to provide feedback. This allows us to work collaboratively with different perspectives coming together and create a shared understanding of the problems that we should improve.

This event and your involvement will help us make sense of our research and ensure our analysis is on the right track.
