Discussion around changes and news directly relevant to the UWP team – staffing changes, social news etc

Sitting on the bus the other day, I picked up a copy of the free newspaper – the Metro. The outermost pages were an advert for the electrical retailer, Currys. It was a really nice ad that was essentially selling the user experience of technology. I took it back to the office to share with […]

Since August 2013, our team has provided an internship role in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University. The role of the CMS Support Assistant provides an opportunity for 2nd year computing-related degree students to spend a year working in a real life environment, where they can gain experience in delivering user support and participate in web application development under […]

This summer we were joined by Informatics student Yordan Hristov on a University internship. Here’s what he thought of the experience:

Billy Wardrop recently joined the University Website Programme fulfilling the role of the CMS Support Officer, which had been vacant since the beginning of March 2014. His main responsibilities are to provide technical expertise and guidance for existing services and projects, offering input to applications development and support processes, and providing second-line user support.

Martin Morrey (from the IS Applications Web Integration Team) and I are both presenting at the upcoming web managers conference – IWMW 2014. We’re running an internal session previewing our presentations on Friday 4 July for colleagues that can’t make the conference.

The UWP are proud to share that we have won another award, bronze sustainability, and also that the University has a new unit – the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability.

The University of Edinburgh is a huge institution with a big beast of a website, so as the newest recruit to the University Website Programme team – Editorial Development Officer – I’m still finding my feet in week three.

Rachel Bhandari has recently joined our team. In her role as Editorial Officer she’ll be supporting our work with the Global Academies and the Student Experience Project as well as contributing to our training, support and communication activities.

We got together last week for a couple of hours to look at what and how we communicate. The session was collaborative and fun – led by one of our Editorial Development Officers, Ailsa Wilson.

As some of you will know, Lizzie Cass-Maran will be leaving us soon to go on maternity leave. Her role will be covered by Duncan MacGruer who is coming over from IS Helpline on a 12 month secondment.
