On Wednesday 5 July we’ll add the latest updates to EdWeb. This release includes social media sharing functions; the ability to add mathematical functions to a page; and security updates and bug fixes.

Google has introduced a new ‘home’ within Google Analytics to try to introduce insights from machine learning into the platform. This replaces the former starting report – Audience, Overview – and in this post, I’d like to offer my thoughts on what this change means for University of Edinburgh users.

On Thursday 4 May, we’ll be deploying the next set of updates and features to EdWeb – particularly, the ability to add JavaScript, and improvements to profile functionality.

Google Analytics Events enables a deeper understanding of in-page website behaviour. Here are some of the key things we can learn about how our users interact with our pages.

I recently accepted an invitation to visit the University Social Media Community to discuss plans and prioritise future development for social media sharing functions and visitor feedback in EdWeb.

A colleague recently asked me for some quick tips on creating effective instructional videos for a new piece of software they are creating. I’ve gathered my thoughts together, and hope they will be of wider use.

It’s simple to use trackable links, together with web analytics, to gauge the success of our campaigns – through print, email, social media or elsewhere.

On Thursday 15 December, we’ll deploy the latest set of code sprint bug fixes and improvements to the EdWeb system. A big thanks again to all the community developers who came together to allow these improvements to happen

The University will shortly start a procurement exercise on the University central search engine. In preparation, I recently conducted search analytics research to attempt to better understand the way our users engage with search.

As of 21 November, the Website Programme offices will be located in our new home in Argyle House. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for our support and training services.
