We had a full house at our latest User Experience Service showcase on 23 July, with a focus on research and design conducted for business critical services: EASE authentication, Card Services, EdWeb and Learn. In this post I’ll share videos of the lightning talks and provide an overview of the session.

The UX team have recently been helping to ensure an upgraded EASE offers an improved user experience. In this post I tell the story of how we redesigned the interface – focusing heavily on microcopy – and the outcomes of doing so.

I have been conducting rounds of usability testing to guide the redesign of EASE, the University’s online sign-in system. These tests needed to be completed quickly with no time or budget for recruitment. The following is an outline of what I did, and what I learned.

In our latest lunchtime meetup, UX Service Manager Neil Allison gave a preview of the talk he presented at UX Scotland. He shared a tried and tested method of bringing teams together to prioritise usability issues effectively.

Collaborative sketching workshops are a quick and effective way to get design decisions moving forward as a team. In this post I go through the benefits, provide the materials needed and give a step-by-step guide so that you can run your own session.

In the previous lunchtime meetup, Mary Elder told us about the work that has been carried out to make MyEd a truly student-centred portal, and Neil Allison reported on the University’s Student Digital Experience Standards.

On Thursday 6 June, Neil Allison will present a preview of the talk he will be giving at UX Scotland later in June. Find out how to get your team and user community involved in prioritising usability issues in your service or website. As ever, the talk is followed by a Lean Coffee-style discussion group.

On Tuesday 14 May we welcome Web Portal Service Manager Mary Elder who will be telling us about the work that has happened over the past year to deliver a truly-user centered portal for current students.

In the latest user-focused lunchtime meetup, Chris Giles, Lillie McEnteer and Richard Arkless from Student Systems gave an inspiring talk on what they took away from a Lean in Higher Education conference, and Neil Allison gave a presentation on the principles of Lean UX methodology.

In the UX service, we rely on a number of tools to support our day-to-day work. In this new series of posts, I will be showcasing some of these tools for the benefit of the wider user-focused community at the University of Edinburgh. In this first installment, I will be talking about the Post-it Plus […]
