The new University search engine launched on 9 July after a nine month research and development period.

We’ll be introducing a few refinements to the new website design on the smallest screen sizes in the near future. This week we’ve been parallel testing three versions with staff and students around the campus.

On Monday 23 February, I was invited to come along to the Innovative Learning Week’s “Smart Data Hack”, hosted by the School of Informatics, to talk about prototyping.

At the end of last year, I ran an open invite session for web publishers, developers and project managers in which I outlined how we’re conducting rapid, iterative usability testing as part of the development of the new University CMS, EdWeb. I gave a presentation at the IWMW conference last month. This is the annual event for web managers in higher education. The slides and a transcript are now available.

Over the past few months we’ve been running new training sessions on how to prototype and how to use personas to improve the user focus of developments. Pilot sessions have been well attended and positively reviewed.

Martin Morrey (from the IS Applications Web Integration Team) and I are both presenting at the upcoming web managers conference – IWMW 2014. We’re running an internal session previewing our presentations on Friday 4 July for colleagues that can’t make the conference.

I’m presenting a plenary presentation at the UK higher ed web managers’ conference in Newcastle in July. I wrote a guest post for their blog recently by way of a preview, and (with a few minor edits) am sharing it here too.
