Inclusive Language Guide
The University of Edinburgh Inclusive Language Guide has now been published. The guide focuses on editorial guidance that avoids bias and conveys respect.
The Inclusive Language Guide was developed in consultation with our communities, and will be continuously iterated and co-designed in warm partnership with our subject matter experts. Our thanks to all the individuals who shared their experiences, dedicated their time and expertise, and took utmost care and consideration to curate the guide.
Co-design with our communities
It was important to us to co-design the guide from the ground up, so we reached out to communities in the University to ask them about their lived experience of harmful language. Workshops and content crits were designed so that participants would feel safe, and this process has informed our learning about the complexities of running truly inclusive events.
