I valued the opportunity to hear from and speak with other Drupal enthusiasts from Scotland and beyond when the University hosted DrupalCamp Scotland, a one-day event on 25 October 2024 organised by the local Drupal Association.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of recruiting more Web Content Design Assistants to the UX Service to assist the move to EdWeb2. As we near the end of the migration project, it is timely to reflect on how this team has evolved, what they have achieved and what’s next.

As part of the ongoing EdWeb migration, the User Experience (UX) team have been working alongside developers to identify any usability issues with migrated functionality before release. These issues can then be prioritised and addressed in future updates. 

Drupal is the Content Management System behind EdWeb 2 (and also EdWeb). As a Drupal contributor I’ve been working with others in the community to help improve the clarity of the language used within Drupal, to make it more accessible and inclusive. 

In September 2023, two Web Content Design Assistants joined the UX team to support the project to migrate web content to EdWeb2. Since they joined they’ve helped the successful migration of over 30 sites, and helped us streamline our approach. We’re delighted to be recruiting more people into this role, bringing the total to five.

Between September and November 2023, we heard from web publishers around the University about their news and events content. This post summarises some of the themes that came out of this research.

Since presenting at DrupalCon in 2022 I have been contributing to Drupal’s marketing and usability initiatives. Returning to speak at DrupalCon 2023, I wanted to share what I’d learned, do some hands-on activities and encourage the community to apply UX principles to all things Drupal.

Drupal is the content management system underpinning EdWeb (and EdWeb2). It’s open source meaning it’s built by the community for the community. I’ve been contributing my UX expertise to Drupal since speaking at DrupalCon in 2022.
