Following on from our community survey we are now in the process of consulting further with the three Colleges, support groups and Communications and Marketing, to finalise the prioritisation of development work for EdWeb.

Current development work for EdWeb

The current work on EdWeb starts the week commencing 13 June. This work has been funded by Communications and Marketing and bring a number of new options to EdWeb.

These are:

• A call to action button – these were implemented in our design framework and are in use but never made  EdWeb. Communications and Marketing are working to improve the design and then our developers will integrate this into EdWeb. This will enable editors to highlight specific actions they want a user to complete.
• Headings will be optional for custom HTML panels for homepages – this is to allow editors to place content such as search fields on their homepages that don’t need a title.
• Additional homepage layouts – more homepage layout options will be added. This will follow a similar pattern to what is currently available but allow more flexibility for homepage layout.

Steps towards a community development approach

This piece of development will finish up the current work phase so that we can then start to put together the next set of releases containing the work that the community has helped prioritise.

While we will be looking to continue development using similar approaches we have used for past development work, blending projects and funded work, we are also looking to start some exciting new developments in a move towards a more community development approach.

The first EdWeb development code sprint

Our first EdWeb code sprint is in July and we’ll be working with some great developers from around the University. The code sprint will be an opportunity for developers to come together for a day to work on fixes and enhancements for EdWeb and we will commit any code that is completed and tested on the day back into the code base. So this will be a chance for more people to get their names in the commit history for EdWeb modules!
