EdWeb deployment update November 2017

On November 15 we will apply the latest set of improvements, module updates and security patches to EdWeb. These will include an update to our site theme, improved help text, and bug fixes.

Design update – EdGEL 4.0

This work will see the University website’s design updated to EdGEL 4.0. There should be relatively small impact on the front-end website as a result of this. However, we advise you to check any ‘proxied’ content (that is, using the Web Application) after the deployment to ensure it meets current standards. Doing this work now brings us up to date with the design theme we use, and will allow us to more easily add improvements to the design in future.

As part of the theme update, we’ve also included a new link at the top of the screen, above the search bar, to link to the University’s portal, MyEd. This is a very heavily used site within the University, and some feedback has suggested that the link in the footer is delaying logins and causing a poor experience, particularly for students.Screenshot showing header area of University of Edinburgh websiteWe’ve already run user testing that suggests this will make a difference in this area, and we’ll also be watching our analytics to validate this on scale.

Fixes and updates

We’ve also included the latest set of bug fixes and updates:

  • videos can now be viewed in full screen format
  • help text updates (to better understand “Group Audiences” in EdWeb, along with setting internal links)

Along with these changes, we will also be deploying small (‘standard’) changes to the ‘modules’ that comprise EdWeb. We have detailed these changes on the EdWeb Change Advisory Board (CAB) pages. These are mainly of use to technical users, or those who run EdWeb distributions.
