Project Overview
This OER toolkit is designed to guide learners through the process of creating a Narrative Persona in just 20 minutes, enhancing their understanding of and engagement with contemporary art. By crafting this persona, learners will embark on a creative journey that integrates AI and literature, exploring various possibilities related to identity, privacy, and artistic creation. Beyond providing practical guidance, this toolkit encourages learners to reflect on the role of virtual identities in society and culture, as well as the secrets about their own psyche revealed through fictional characters.

Materials Needed
- Internet access and a smart device (ensure it can save drafts or handle text editing).
- A pen and paper for drafting is highly recommended.
- Accessibility support: If you have visual, auditory, or reading needs, consider using assistive tools or seeking help from others.
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Draw Inspiration from AI
Visit https://this-person-does-not-exist.com/zh#google_vignette to obtain an AI-generated realistic image of a person. Refreshing the site will automatically generate a new image. Choose one you like, download it, and save it. Alternatively, you can determine their appearance in other ways, such as using a cartoon image.
Using this random visual, consider the following: What might their race, gender, cultural background, and age be?
Step 2: Refine your character’s basic information further.
Visit Fake Address Generator to generate your character’s name, address, phone number, etc. You can also adjust the details to suit your preferences.
Now, you likely have your character’s basic social information.
Example:
Her name is Maya Kim. She lives in Trung Tam Village, Nghi An Commune, Vietnam. However, she is currently staying at Kiriyama Inn, Rue des Étoiles, Quartier de Vermeil, Ville de Saint-Laurent, Mitteland, Listenbourg.
Step 3: Refining the literary background of your persona by asking questions.
Imagine that the persona is a real person. If you were chatting with them, what kinds of things might you talk about? Write down five questions and then provide answers for them. Here are some example questions you can choose from:
- What have you been busy with recently?
- What kind of work do you do?
- What are your hobbies or interests?
- How do you get along with your family?
- Describe the place you currently live in.
- Who is your best friend, and what are they like?
- What are your thoughts on recent trending topics?
- What’s the last book you read?
- What kind of music do you like?
While answering these questions, consider whether the answer to one question might influence the answers to others.
Example:
Ms. Maya Kim is currently searching for her husband, Paul Durand, in Listenbourg. Paul, the owner of Durand Horizons Ltd., went missing during a business trip. He mentioned visiting his hometown, Rustenburg, and planned to stay for two weeks, but she hasn’t heard from him since. The local police investigation in Vietnam yielded no progress, as if both he and his story disappeared into thin air.
Maya Kim works for a travel agency and enjoys running and camping. She gathered information about Listenbourg herself and plans to search for her husband on her own. Maya’s parents are divorced, and she has a strained relationship with her family. Apart from her husband and her sister, Nina Kim, she has no particularly close connections.
Step 4: Enhance your persona’s behavior by borrowing traits.
Think back to the behavioral traits of people around you and add those that you think fit your persona. This could include catchphrases or habitual actions.
Example:
Maya Kim suffers from rhinitis, so her nose feels uncomfortable with significant changes in air temperature. During conversations, Kim is very nervous and wants the other person to respond to her constantly, even when she’s simply sharing her own opinions. If she stays in one place for too long, she tends to call out to others in the room.
Step 5: Refine the persona’s logic and shape their inner depth using psychoanalysis.
Consider the following:
- Unconscious motives and deep desires
- Psychological traumas
Think about how these deeper motivations might be inferred from the persona’s behavior.
Example:
Kim has a particularly poor relationship with her mother. After her parents divorced, Kim lived with her mother, but their interactions were mostly limited to arguments. Her only caring family member, her sister, is unable to speak. This background explains Kim’s nervousness during conversations and why she was drawn to Paul Durand, who could tolerate and accept this aspect of her.
Step 6:Leave a Flaw
No matter how realistic your persona might seem, they are not real. The authenticity of the character is meant to enhance literary flavor. Leaving a flaw not only provides a safeguard for you in terms of control but also ensures fairness for others. The flaw can be obvious or deeply hidden.
Example:
Kim claims to be temporarily living in Listenbourg, which is actually a fictional location derived from an internet meme.
Step 7: Interact with the Real World (Optional)
It’s time to bring your character into the light of day. Try engaging with the real world through the persona you’ve created. For example:
- Write a letter to someone as your character.
- Participate in a survey or vote in the character’s name.
- Create a Facebook account and join the following groups:
- Doll’s House by Kiriyama: A group dedicated to virtual personas. Join and see whose character is the most intriguing!
- Listenbourg Daily: Listenbourg is a fictional place, originally a meme. If you prefer a more immersive role-playing experience, join Listenbourg Daily and become a resident of this imaginative locale. Listenbourg could be anything—a mysterious, supernatural hub, or a surreal town rife with cults and bizarre phenomena!

This toolkit is interesting and guides learners in creating a virtual Internet identity. In a sense, fiction is another kind of reality. It inspired me a lot.
The process of creating a virtual character is interesting, and it would be better if the steps could be simplified a bit.
Amazing! It’s so cool~
This toolkit is very suitable for the current situation, where private lives are exposed online and there is no privacy. By creating a virtual identity, we can rethink our perception of our own identity.
