Collage Poetry: anyone can be an ‘artist’!

Summary

We often feel moved by beautiful scenery, delicious food, warm sunshine, etc, and want to record this emotion. We can do this through collage poetry, a creative artistic expression form, to discover hidden inspirations in life and explore the beauty of language.

Introduction

Collage poetry is a form of artistic writing. It takes words, phrases, or sentences from existing texts, such as books, magazines, and newspapers, and recombines them into new poetry. It emphasizes the artistic expression between new and old text. It is also free and innovative.

🎥 “We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write peotry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But peotry, beauty, romance, love…these are what we stay alive for.”(Schulman 2003)

Artist-Barbara Kruger

Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist and collage artist. In 1979, she formed her signature style using large-scale black-and-white images. She reuses found images and pairs them with brief, pithy phrases printed in Futura Bold or Helvetica Extra Bold font. The text strips are in black, white, or red. Most of her artworks deal with feminism, consumerism, desire, etc. She often borrowed images from magazines and placed them in new contexts.
