Bake sale – thank you to everyone!!

I’ve lived on cake for the past two days including a cake fuelled breakfast yesterday, and lunch today.  It’s all about eating a balanced diet (one of the cakes had apricot in it, surely that counts?).

What would drive Karen to eat so much cake I hear you ask (although anyone who knows me will know I don’t need an excuse……)?  It’s all been in aid of Paths for All, a Scottish charity dedicated to maintaining walk networks across Scotland and in honour of our friend and colleague Richard, who enjoyed a good walk with friends.  The bake sale is over, a few crumbs left, but we’ll continue to sell raffle tickets until tomorrow afternoon (Thurs 4th) so please let me know if you’d like to buy.  We continue to accept donations via our Just Giving page too (LTW Bake Sale 2024).

I want to say thank you to everyone who helped organise this bake sale (Lee-Ann, James, Eloise, Nicky, Katie, Andrew & Delia), Melissa and Stewart for the ace raffle and baker prizes (Edinburgh Zoo tickets to see LTW wolverine, lots of baking goodies, lego sets), those who helped at the bake stall (James, Katie, Delia, Andrew, Miki, Edward E, Eloise & Kat) and of course every single person who baked and who donated.  The baking was awesome, Richard would be very proud of us all.

Calorie free cakes and mini bakers – made with Lego (Stewart Cromar)

The baking was anonymously judged by 3 expert cake testers (a qualification I aim to get by the next bake sale!) who all said it was extremely hard judge due to all the deliciousness they encountered but decisions were made and our two top bakers are:

  • Delia Georgescu for her delicious croissant dough spiral (cruffin)
  • Magda Dundas for a beautiful Apricot Meringue Cake (which I can confirm was delicious!).

who have both won vouchers for Nisbets for their efforts. Well done to both!

I’m going to update this blog post with the final tally of donations and also for recipes or links our bakers are willing to share.  See below for recipes.

Get in touch with your recipes or to buy raffle tickets (until tomorrow, Thursday @4.30pm)

(Karen.Howie@ed.ac.uk).

Thank you all again!

Karen
