What is your full name?
Audrey Cameron
What is your job title?
Chancellor’s Fellow and I teach on the PGDE Secondary Education and MSc Inclusive Education courses.
What school or service do you work in?
Moray House School of Education and Sport
Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your role.
I am recently appointed as a Chancellor’s Fellow and will continue to teach on the PGDE Secondary Education (Chemistry with General Science) course (since 2018). I’m responsible for facilitating the course and support the personal tutees. I also teach through sign language because I’m deaf and a BSL user. I am also an associate tutor on the MSc Inclusive Education course (since 2010). My research will focus on learning science through sign language.
What does it mean to you to have been nominated for a Teaching Award this year?
I was shocked and surprised. It is a wonderful honour to be nominated. Thank you for the nomination.
What’s your favourite part of your role and working with students?
Watching them grow as teachers.
How have you adapted your approach to teaching and supporting students under the Hybrid Model this year?
We used Zoom to continue synchronous sessions and use breakout rooms to enable students to discuss in groups. It is very important for the students to be able to see each other online and feel part of a community.
What’s been the biggest challenge in your role this year?
Not meeting students in person frequently.
What would you say to the student(s) who nominated you, or students who are considering submitting a nomination for a staff member who has had an impact on them?
Many thanks for the nomination. Feel appreciated.
