The 2019 Festival of Creative Learning curated week in February was a roaring success, with over 100 events and more than 2000 tickets booked. This year, we partnered with Dialogues Festival and Talbot Rice Gallery, expanding our provision for audiences interested in art and music, as well as ASCUS, for those wanting to explore life in the lab. We also provided a platform for innovative events such as the Students as Change Agents‘ week-long challenge run by The University of Edinburgh Careers Service.
Staff and students contributed to a diverse Festival programme with events such as the following: Slow Science and Speed Dreaming: Collaborative Utopia in a Mobile Tiny House Shepherds Hut; People, Soils, Microbes: the Evolution of Inhabited Landscapes; 15 Most Useful British Sign Language Signs for Life; Dancing Wallpaper Patterns: the Beautiful Mathematics of Tango; Sympathetic Touch & Vocal Release Workshop; and Creating an Autistic-Friendly University. We think it captures the joy, creativity, collaboration, mindfulness, innovation and fun generated by our amazing Festival Event Organisers and Attendees. A wide selection of photos from the 2019 Festival is also available now to view on our gallery.
We have also asked our Festival Organisers to each submit a blog this year, so we are releasing these weekly on the Festival website. Keep an eye out for them as they will continue to tell the story of the Festival and what we all learned.

Jennifer Williams is a Projects & Engagement Coordinator in IAD and coordinates the Festival of Creative Learning, alongside a variety of projects that promote innovative, collaborative and creative learning at the University of Edinburgh (e.g., the Near Future Teaching project). Her background is in writing, art, collaboration, creative learning and project management. She holds a BA degree from Wellesley College in English Literature with a Studio Art minor, and an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow. Her key recent posts have included Programme Manager at the Scottish Poetry Library and Literature Officer at the Traverse Theatre.
