A quantum spectrum of diversity: embracing the physics behind inclusion

As we celebrate Pride Month this June, we take a moment to recognise the beauty and complexity of diversity, much like the intricate dance of particles in the world of quantum mechanics.


The fascinating world of quantum mechanics

In the realm of quantum mechanics, particles challenge our classical understanding of physics. One of the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics is superposition. This principle states that particles can exist in multiple states or positions at once until they are measured or observed. This defies the classical binary view of being in one state or another, much like the rich diversity of human identities and orientations, which are represented in the iconic LGBTQ+ symbol, the rainbow.

Embracing diversity in science and community

At the School of Physics and Astronomy, we work to create an open and inclusive environment for all. Just as quantum mechanics reveals the complexity and richness of the universe, so too does our community reflect a tapestry of identities.
