Students from the endeavour outreach team turned curiosity into achievement— by supporting local young people to design, build and fly rockets.
Over the last 6 months, the endeavour Outreach team has been working with local high schools and youth groups to design and build their own rockets for the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKROC).
The teams started off with no prior experience in rocketry, but with support from the endeavour mentors, plenty resilience, creativity, and teamwork, they successfully designed and built their own rockets.
In March, teams from George Heriot’s School, Thinking Thistle Education, Harris Academy, and St George’s School flew their rockets at the UKROC Scottish Regional Finals in Kinross.
All teams managed to successfully launch and recover their rockets, along with their payloads still intact (eggs!), which is a tribute to all their hard work, determination and perseverance.

The Endeavour outreach were also able to showcase the climate-related research and development their Payload team has been working on this year.
“We’ve absolutely loved having the experience to inspire young students into a love of rocketry and hope to continue to do so in years to come. We were also proud to be able to financially support these teams to participate in UKROC through Launch4Change, funded by ARIA.”
Special thanks to the Endeavour Outreach team: Jacob Hunter and Ella Marshall (both year 5 MPhys Astrophysics) and Grace Rieu-Clarke (year 3 MEng Hons Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) for organising this, and to Ben Tullett (year 5 MPhys Astrophysics) and all the other mentors who helped the teams design and build their rockets!
Thanks also to Jeannie Leung (year 3 BEng Mechanical Engineering) for sharing this story.
