Weekly Changes – 10/04/2023

A slightly belated publication of the details for last week’s release…

Ubuntu Jammy

Details of recent progress on the Ubuntu Jammy platform are now recorded separately, see the latest report.

Repository Signing Key

The Informatics package repository signing key has been updated. This is included in the gpg keyring provided in the lcfg-release-ubuntu and lcfg-release-debian packages for the supported platforms. We will switch to actually using this key on Friday 21st April.

aptly

For clarity, the platform-specific parts of the ed/options/aptly.h header have been split out into separate headers, see the Jammy project report (linked above) for details.

The default  with  option for repositories is now to only include sources, as we now have an LCFG installer there is no need to mirror any udebs or installer packages.

RPM package repositories

Work is progressing on support for managing RPM repositories on Ubuntu. The updaterpms package has been ported to Ubuntu (and the latest version of rpmlib) so that the genhdfile utility can be used to extract the RPM header files used by updaterpms. The createrepo utility is also now available for managing yum repository metadata. Work is ongoing to add support for mirroring upstream RPM repositories using the LCFG pkglist-tools.

Software

There are some new software options available for Ubuntu:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_PERL_XML_SIMPLE – Perl XML::Simple module
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_RPMLIB – RPM libraries

Some other options have been tidied and tweaked to use the new LCFG_OPTIONS_RPMLIB option.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
