For some time now in Informatics we have occasionally seen problems with Ubuntu desktop machines not successfully rebooting. It hasn’t been a widespread problem, affecting something like just 1% of machines whenever package updates require a reboot, so diagnosis has been difficult. This week sees quite a few changes, in particular, following from discussions at the recent LCFG monthly meeting, various configuration has been moved from the DICE to LCFG headers so that it may be shared and reused.

This is looking like one of our busiest weeks for a while, with quite a range of changes. Mostly these are focussed on the Ubuntu platform which sees changes for the network and openssh components. Here are all the details…
