Weekly Changes – 04/05/2026

A fairly quiet week overall, GPU users may be interested in testing the new 595 nvidia series. Here are the details of the few notable changes…

Kernel

There is a new macro – ED_OPTIONS_KERNEL_MANUAL – which can be used when you want to select a specific series from the lcfg-layer package lists (rather than one of the standard options like INF or INF_TEST). See the comments in the ed/options/kernel.h header for full details.

nvidia

Support has been added for the 595 series which is the new production branch. Note that this will only be supported for the most recent kernel versions.

auditd component

The schema for the LCFG auditd component has gained a new extra_rules resource which may be used to specify additional verbatim lines in an audit.rules configuration. Note that the component package has not yet been updated to support this in the template file.

network component

There are further updates to the LCFG network script for validating the configuration for a system.

PackageKit

Following on from the removal of support for PackageKit, the pk-debconf-helper.socket unit has been removed from the sockets.target for users.

Logging

On Informatics DICE machines all connections to the central loghost will have TLS enabled after this release.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
