Weekly Changes – 17/10/2022
The main changes for this week are related to various preparatory work for the new Ubuntu installer. There are also a few improvements for Ubuntu server support. Here are all the details…
LCFG fstab component
To make it easier to test, support has been added for the latest version of the fstab component schema (version 5). It can be enabled using the LCFG_FSTAB_LATEST
macro. This new schema is compatible with the previous version so once testing has been completed it will become the standard version on all supported platforms. Work has also begun to utilise the new parts of the schema, the new resources will be used by the new LCFG installer for Ubuntu.
Some new Perl package dependencies (libjson-perl, libnumber-bytes-human-perl and libtext-formattable-perl) have been added to the base list in preparation for including the component on all Ubuntu systems.
UEFI support
Ubuntu systems that have UEFI support enabled now include the efibootmgr package. This allows the modification of the UEFI boot menu, that shouldn’t usually be needed but the utility can be handy to have available for more complex changes (e.g. changing the boot disk device).
MariaDB
The LCFG mariadb component is now available for Ubuntu. The slightly newer version includes the standard environment initialization for the additional setpassword
, storepassword
and runcommand
methods. The version on SL7 will be updated to match in due course.
OpenAFS servers
The LCFG openafs component has been updated on Ubuntu to ensure it always starts after the openafs-fileserver
and openafs-server
services.
Software
There is a new LCFG_OPTIONS_FAI_SETUPSTORAGE
package option which may be used to include the FAI setup-storage tool. That is a dependency of the new fstab component which is used by the new Ubuntu installer to partition and format disks.
