Weekly Changes – 10/10/2022
A fairly quiet week, the main changes are related to the ongoing work on the new Ubuntu installer. Here all the details:
Systemd component
The LCFG systemd component has gained a new presets
method which is designed to be called early in the install process. It will only configure the service preset files, which is particularly useful for preventing services from being started when not required.
OpenAFS server
The lcfg/options/openafs-server.h
header has been updated to add support for Debian/Ubuntu. The component has been updated to make it possible to specify the service name via a resource (it is openafs-server
on SL7 but openafs-fileserver
on Ubuntu).
There is also a new ed/options/openafs-server.h
header which can be used to include all the necessary packages for running an OpenAFS server on Ubuntu. Note that this header will use the package versions provided by Informatics rather than the default versions in Ubuntu.
LCFG Installer
The work on the new installer for Ubuntu is progressing well. It now has support for UEFI-based systems and an HP EliteDesk G8 desktop machine was successfully installed last week. The next stage is to integrate a lot of the configuration in the lcfg/defaults/install-debian-ng.h
into the standard LCFG headers. As a bonus, the installer now includes the perccli utility which should make it much easier to configure hardware RAID arrays from a console before beginning the installation process.
In Informatics it is now possible to try the new Ubuntu installer for machines following our develop release. It requires changes to the fstab resources for a profile so contact the Systems Unit for full details.
Symas openldap
Support has been added to ed/options/aptly.h
for mirroring the Symas openldap package repository for Ubuntu Focal. It may be enabled using the APTLY_MIRROR_SYMAS
macro.
Dell PowerEdge R250
A new LCFG hardware header has been added for the Dell PowerEdge R250 server. This is based on the configuration for the earlier R240 model and hasn’t yet been tested.
Kernel
The Ubuntu INF_TEST
kernel has been updated to 5.4.0-126.142
