Weekly Changes – 05/07/2021
This week sees the completion of support for SL7.9 on DICE. There is also an update to the network component for Ubuntu which some sites will want to investigate. Here are all the details…
SL7.9
Further minor fixes for the SL7.9 release have been added to the headers and package lists. This is based on the roll-out last week to all machines following the develop release. Once these fixes have reached the stable release on Wednesday it should be safe to deploy for any units keen to make a start on upgrading servers.
The default minor release for DICE SL7 is now SL7.9. To stick with SL7.8 define the DICE_STICK_WITH_SL78
macro at the top of the LCFG profile. All DICE machines following the stable have already had that macro specified.
Ubuntu Network Configuration
The LCFG network component for Ubuntu Focal has been updated to 2.3.3. This adds support for bridge devices. Feedback on the new features would be very much appreciated, see the LCFG wiki for usage examples.
PostgreSQL
Updates are provided for the 9.6, 11 and 12 series PostgreSQL packages on SL7. Note that the 10 series will not be supported for further releases.
Subversion Client
When the LCFG web services used locally-signed SSL certificates it was necessary to configure the subversion client to trust them. This is no longer necessary since all services now use Let’s Encrypt. Recently we noticed that this configuration broke the 1.9 client (provided in the sclo-subversion19 software collection) on SL7. The configuration resources have been removed but note that as the /etc/subversion/servers
file was managed using the file component it will NOT be automatically deleted.
It can be removed using the file component like this:
!file.files mADD(svn_server_config) file.file_svn_server_config /etc/subversion/servers file.type_svn_server_config delete
Kernel
The default and INF_TEST
kernels for Ubuntu Focal have been updated to 5.4.0-77.86
.
rsyslog
A minor adjustment has been made to the rsyslog log rotation configuration for Ubuntu Focal. This removes the attempt to rotate non-existent /var/log/lcfg/syslog
files. Some tidying of the header was also done to remove references to the unsupported SL6 platform.
