Weekly Changes – 12/07/2021

This week, PostgreSQL version 14 is available, and there’s a new kernel for SL7.9. Read on for a full list of changes.

PostgreSQL (and yum)

PostgreSQL version 14 is now available via postgresql-14.h and postgresql-14-server.h. Note that this is a beta release.

The yum.h header has been changed to use the latest official PostgreSQL (PGDG) yum repository for SL7.

Kernel

The INF kernel for SL7.9 has been updated to 3.10.0-1160.31.1.el7. This version has already been the INF_TEST kernel for several weeks.

Package Forge (and pbuilder)

The Package Forge build farm has been upgraded to use PostgreSQL version 13 (it was using 9).

The pbuilder build environment builder, which is used by Package Forge for Ubuntu packages, has received some maintenance, adding support for the devel bucket and removing support for Ubuntu 19.10.

GlusterFS

The glusterfs.h headers now use the LCFG_OPTIONS_GLUSTERFS package set.

Subversion client

The /etc/subversion/servers file has been removed. This completes the fix, begun last week, for the problems with the Subversion 1.9 client on SL7.

Grub

The grub2 component on Ubuntu has been updated to ensure that the configuration is repaired after the grub-pc packages are updated. Before this change, the configuration would be repaired after a grub-pc update only when the machine shut down, meaning that machines which did not get a clean shutdown would miss out on the repair and be rendered unbootable.
Additionally, obsolete grub version 1 resources have been removed.

BIRD

bird.h, the header for the BIRD internet routing daemon, now always uses version 2. Note that although bird.h is currently entirely at the dice level, configuration will in time also be provided at the lcfg level.

Slurm

The default version has been updated to 20.11.7-1.

DICE checks

The OS versions check now supports multiple platforms and minor releases, making it suitable for use in the servers checks. The servers checks now also check the kernel version, reporting when a machine is not using either the current INF stable kernel or the latest INF_TEST kernel for the current versions of Ubuntu and SL.

BuzzSaw

There’s been some preparation for a forthcoming upgrade of the logs processor BuzzSaw to use PostgreSQL version 13 (it currently uses version 9).
