New BFI Player pilot goes live!
We are delighted to announce that thanks to a new agreement with BFI and JISC, the Library is now able to offer all UoE students and staff full access to the subscription-only film content on BFI Player. Our access to classic and cult films from across the decades will be for the rest of this academic year (2022/23) in the first instance.
To access the BFI Player and create your own viewing Account, please follow these 3 easy steps:
- Go to https://player.bfi.org.uk/academic/subscribe and create an account, OR sign in if you already have one by selecting ‘Already have an account? Sign in’
- Select ‘University of Edinburgh’ from the dropdown list
- Authenticate subscription using your university credentials
Make sure you tick the box ‘I’d like to receive the BFI Player newsletter’ for exclusive competitions, watchlists and other BFI opportunities via email. Please note:
- Once you’ve set up your subscription, you can simply login on BFI Player for the remainder of this academic year. You don’t need to use the subscribe link.
- BFI Player is unavailable outside the UK.
- Rentals and festival events are not included in the subscription offer. Content can change throughout the pilot and films could be removed.

Qwest TV trial begins!
We are delighted to announce that the Library has arranged a one year free trial to Qwest TV, the online resource created by Quincy Jones which gives us access to a wealth of jazz, soul, funk and world music documentaries, films and interviews.
From Wednesday 7th October you can access Qwest TV from here.
Artfilms Digital trial now available!
We are pleased to let you know that we currently have access to a trial of the film database Artfilms Digital.
Artfilms-Digital is a video streaming service of Contemporary Arts Media and Artfilms and provides access to over 1660 videos in Arts & Humanities subject areas with strengths in performing arts, visual and digital art, architecture, design, new media, film, cinema, communication and culture. It includes masterclasses, documentaries, and interviews.
The trial is live until 31st December 2018.

Resource in focus: Box of Broadcasts
Do you want access to thousands of current and forthcoming TV programmes and an archive going back decades? Then use Box of Broadcasts!
The recorded programmes are kept indefinitely and added to a growing media archive with all content shared by users across every subscribing institution.
The system allows staff and students to record and catch-up on missed programmes on and off-campus, schedule recordings in advance, edit programmes into clips, create playlists, embed clips into VLEs, share what they are watching with others and search a growing archive of material.
