Library launches new Diversifying Toolkit guide for staff
The Academic Support Librarian team have put together a subject guide on how to diversify your teaching, which aims to give staff and tutors an introduction on where to start with diversification, decolonisation and making your teaching and reading lists more EDI-friendly and aware. (EDI = Equality, Diversity & Inclusion).

ECA Library Prize winner at 2023 RSA Annual is announced!
We are delighted that Norwegian artist Kjersti Sletteland has been announced as the winner of the 2023 RSA Annual ECA Library Prize. Kjersti wins a one year free borrowing membership to the ECA Library collections, which is part of the University of Edinburgh Libraries.

New BFI Player pilot goes live!
We are delighted to announce that thanks to a new agreement with BFI and JISC, the Library is now able to offer all UoE students and staff full access to the subscription-only film content on BFI Player. Our access to classic and cult films from across the decades will be for the rest of this academic year (2022/23) in the first instance.
To access the BFI Player and create your own viewing Account, please follow these 3 easy steps:
- Go to https://player.bfi.org.uk/academic/subscribe and create an account, OR sign in if you already have one by selecting ‘Already have an account? Sign in’
- Select ‘University of Edinburgh’ from the dropdown list
- Authenticate subscription using your university credentials
Make sure you tick the box ‘I’d like to receive the BFI Player newsletter’ for exclusive competitions, watchlists and other BFI opportunities via email. Please note:
- Once you’ve set up your subscription, you can simply login on BFI Player for the remainder of this academic year. You don’t need to use the subscribe link.
- BFI Player is unavailable outside the UK.
- Rentals and festival events are not included in the subscription offer. Content can change throughout the pilot and films could be removed.

Bookmarks Bookfair at ECA Sculpture Court!
We are very excited about today’s artists’ books and zines Bookmarks Bookfair, which will be open and free to attend from 1pm to 7pm, Wednesday 29th March 2023, at the ECA Sculpture Court in the Main Building.
This is a fantastic annual event organised by the School of Design and is a chance to meet and buy from our hugely talented art and design students, staff and friends, selling a range of zines, artists’ books, cards and prints.

Enchanting new display at ECA Library
Our new display at ECA Library, Evolution House, features the work of book artist Priya Pereira. Published by Pixie Books, Seven Stories of Mewar is an artist’s book exploring episodes of significance that occurred during the illustrious history of Mewar, in Northern India, over the last 1500 years.
Zines at ECA Library
Are you interested in making and exploring the world of zines? We have a growing collection of zines within the ECA Library artists’ books collection! You can find them all on DiscoverEd.
Our collection includes works by Lesley Imgart, Sarah Sheard, “Zine a Month” duo Matt Swan and John Brown, and book artists at Good Press Gallery such as Eden Bo Dower, Johanna Hedva, Aki Hassan, and Isobel Neviazsky.

Edward Enninful takes centre stage at ECA Library
To celebrate Black History Month 2022 ECA Library has a special display centred on the new memoir by Edward Enninful, Editor in Chief of Vogue UK since 2017.
The display features Enninful’s new book: A Visible Man alongside many of the issues of Vogue UK with which he has transformed the culture of this most famous of fashion industry magazines. Enninful is a key figure with global influence since he is the first male, first Black, first gay editor in the magazine’s 100-year history.
Listen to the podcast of Enninful’s interview with Oprah on Super Soul in which Enninful says “I want young people to read this book and understand that they can change an industry from within, by being vocal and not afraid”.
