Weekly Changes – 21/10/2024
Various improvements to network monitoring software, removal of the Atom Ubuntu package repository and a fix to the CUPS component on Ubuntu. Here are the details of the notable changes…
DHCP
The LCFG dhcpd component on Ubuntu now supports a new per-client address
resource which may be used to reliably select the specific address which should be used when a hostname resolves to multiple addresses. For those populating the DHCP server configuration using a spanning map, this release includes the necessary changes to the dhclient component schema to add an address
resource.
arpwatch
The LCFG arpwatch component has been completely rewritten in Perl and now uses the Template Toolkit to generate the configuration files. The component now uses Systemd to manage the separate arpwatch process for each interface using a service template. Note that this version of the component has been tailored to supporting arpwatch on Debian/Ubuntu (which has slightly different commandline options) and will not work correctly on SL7.
The standard arpwatch Systemd service template has been replaced with a local version that allows the arp database files to be stored in an alternative directory.
Atom Package Repository
References to the Atom package repository have been removed from the ED layer. Apologies for only noticing this after some default builds started failing. This project was abandoned at the end of 2022. The final version has been copied into our world repository in case anyone needs to continue providing it for a while.
CUPS Component
A new version of the CUPS component on Ubuntu ignores the deprecation of PPDs error that lpadmin issues every time the component’s configure method was called. The version of CUPs in Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) continues to support the use of PPDs.
