Weekly Changes – 29/04/2024

There are quite a lot of changes this week related to the Informatics nagios service, other sites should not notice much difference. Here are the details of all the notable changes…

Kernel

The Ubuntu INF_TEST kernel has been updated to 5.15.0-105.115.

The standard SL7 kernel has been updated to 3.10.0-1160.118.1.el7.

nvidia drivers

Initial support has been added to Ubuntu Jammy for the nvidia 550 series driver. Note that this is only supported by newer kernel versions, for the 5.15 series this is since 5.15.0-102.112 and for the 6.5 series kernel since 6.5.0-27.28.

Dell BOSS N1

There is a new header for the new Dell Boot Optimized Storage Solution N1 card. This provides the mnvcli utility which should be used rather than the previous mvcli (note that extra “n” in the name. Thanks to Nikolaos Dandoulakis for providing the package.

nut UPS monitor

The nut user and group are now managed by LCFG for Ubuntu, this ensures they always exist before any other components attempt to set file permissions.

The LCFG nut2 component has seen further improvements for the CGI interface support. In particular, it is now possible to pass the host port number via the spanning map. This is necessary for Ubuntu which uses a different default port to that on Redhat.

When the LCFG_OPTIONS_NUT2_CGI_SERVER support is enabled a useful apache configuration snippet is now generated that can be included in the virtualhost configuration. This configures the correct location for the CGI scripts and the files needed for the web interface.

Informatics nagios service

Ahead of the upgrade of the Informatics nagios service to Ubuntu, many changes have been made to the nagios_client.manager and service-specific nagios_groups resources to add support for sending notifications via Microsoft Teams.

The expectation now is that the service-specific nagios_groups resource will reference the nagios_client.manager by default. Also, the manager list will now typically include two entries – the original netgroup (e.g. nagios/foo-unit), which is still used to configure who will receive email notifications, and a new entry (e.g. msteams_foo_unit) which specifies the webhook to be used.

Changes to headers and package lists
