Weekly Changes – 29/01/2024

Not much change this week but those using Jammy should note there is a small chance Python 2 may be unexpectedly removed from some of their systems. Here are the details of all the significant changes…

Virtualbox

Virtualbox on Ubuntu Focal and Jammy has been updated to version 6.1.48. Whilst testing these upgrades we discovered that the package cannot be upgraded at boot-time. This is due to the usual issue with the LCFG apt component being started before the systemd service which is being upgraded. To avoid any boot problems the packages are now flagged as "not for boot"

Python 2

The dependencies for a number of package options on Ubuntu Jammy have been updated to reflect the fact that they no longer have dependencies on Python 2. In some cases this may result in all the Python 2 packages being automatically removed from a system.

Software

The following new software options are available on Ubuntu:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_IDZEBRA2 – high-performance, general-purpose structured text indexing and retrieval engine
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_IDZEBRA2_DEV – development packages for idzebra
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_GLIB2_DEV – development packages for the Glib libraries
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_PKGCONFIG – the pkg-config utility
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_WEBALIZER – web server log analysis program
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_YAZ – Z39.50/SRW/SRU utilities
