Weekly Changes – 06/02/2023

This is a quiet week with most sites not seeing any changes beyond the usual security updates, here are all the notable details…

Apache and WSGI

Some Python-based web apps in Ubuntu Focal still do not support Python 3. On Ubuntu, Python 3 is used by default, so to handle this the lcfg/options/apacheconf-wsgi.h header now supports reverting to Python 2 for Ubuntu by specifying the LCFG_OPTIONS_WSGI_PYTHON2 macro (or DICE_OPTIONS_WSGI_PYTHON2 for Informatics profiles).

viewvc

We are in the process of adding Ubuntu support for the viewvc web interface for subversion repositories. All the dependencies have been dealt with but the package is not yet available. This has been provided in Debian/Ubuntu in the past but was dropped at some point so we’re having to take the old package from Debian and update it to the latest release from the project on github. Note that viewvc currently still depends on Python 2, there is a newer, unreleased, version which supports Python 3 but the version of subversion in Focal is too old.

Kernel

The INF_TEST kernel for SL7 has been updated to 3.10.0-1160.83.1.el7.

Software

There are some new software options available for Ubuntu:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_APACHE_WSGI_PY2 – The Python 2 version of the Apache wsgi module
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_SUBVERSION_PYTHON – Python support for subversion, note this still requires Python 2

These can be enabled by adding the option name to the profile.pkgcppopts resource, for example:

!profile.pkgcppopts mADD(LCFG_OPTIONS_SUBVERSION_PYTHON)
