Weekly Changes – 30/01/2023

A much quieter week, mainly featuring more Ubuntu server work, with little impact on sites other than Informatics. Note that due to strike action which is scheduled for Wednesday 1st February it is likely that this release will be delayed or postponed until next week. Here are all the details…

DHCP Server

Some modernisation work has been done on the LCFG dhcpd component. In particular, the way in which the configuration file is generated has been improved so that it works on all platforms. Also, previously, the component replaced the configuration file every time the configure method was called. The file will now only be replaced (and the daemon restarted) when the contents need to be updated.

PostgreSQL

To avoid the possibility of the PostgreSQL database service being automatically started whenever packages are installed or upgraded on Ubuntu the systemd service is now preset to be disabled in the lcfg/options/postgresql.h header.

subversion

The LCFG subversion component now supports Ubuntu.

Robot Operating System

Support for version 2 of the Robot Operating System (ROS) has been added for DICE Ubuntu.

Apache user_rewrite module

The locally-developed Apache mod_user_rewrite module, which is designed to support rewriting the Basic Auth username prior to authentication taking place, has been ported to Ubuntu.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
