Weekly Changes – 11/07/2022
This week there is a wide range of mostly small changes. Here are all the details…
sysinfo
The sysinfo certs_dir
path resource has been corrected on Ubuntu to point to /etc/ssl/certs
.
There is a new sysinfo path resource – path_keys_dir
– which stores the location of the standard directory for private keys. On SL7 this is /etc/pki/tls/private
and on Ubuntu it is /etc/ssl/private
.
Note that on DICE we mostly use the same location for both SL7 and Ubuntu (/etc/pki/tls/certs
) for all certificates managed by the x509 component.
See bug#1310 for details, thanks to Kenny MacDonald for the suggestions.
Path Changes
A further batch of changes has been applied to replace hardwired paths with references to sysinfo resources. This completes the Ubuntu transition work for the release-managed core headers, it just leaves the DICE live headers requiring modifications.
Dell PowerEdge R350
There is a new hardware header – lcfg/hw/dell_poweredge_r350.h
– for the Dell PowerEdge R350 server. Note that, due to a new Intel network interface which is not recognised by the kernel, it is not currently possible to install either SL7 or Ubuntu onto these machines. It would be possible to workaround that issue by either using a USB dongle or installing an extra network card.
VirtualBox
VirtualBox on Ubuntu has been updated to 6.1.34, see this blog article for details of changes.
Mathematica
There are new LCFG headers – lcfg/options/mathematica.h
and lcfg/options/mathlm-server.h
– to support using Mathematica. Version 13 is supported on Ubuntu, on SL7 versions 10 and 11 are supported.
alpine mail client
The alpine mail client has been updated to version 2.26, see the project website for details of the changes.
Kernel
The Ubuntu hardware enablement kernel has been updated to 5.13.0-52.59~20.04.1
.
mercurial
On DICE Ubuntu the mercurial revision-control system has been upgraded from 5.3.1 to 6.1.3, see the project wiki for details of the changes. As well as being a major upgrade, this removes a dependency on Python 2.
perccli
There is a new perccli utility which is Dell’s recommended tool for configuring MegaRAID on a Dell server. It replaces megacli. It should work on Dell servers bought from 2012 onwards. Those with access to the DICE wiki can view our new Cheat Sheet.
