A quiet week, mostly just a few small improvements for Noble. Here are the details of all the notable changes…

fail2ban

The latest version of fail2ban on Noble has some new dependencies, in particular, it now needs python3-setuptools.

rdisc router discovery

On DICE Noble systems there is a new wait_for_default_route.service System service. This is part of network-online.target, it will wait until a default route appears. This means that any other services that run after network-online.target will definitely be able to reach the network.

Dell System Updater

The ed/options/dsu.h header now provides all the key files needed for Debian and Ubuntu systems in a dsu-keys package.

Apache Managed Domains and ACME DNS-01

Work started on a new header ed/options/apacheconf-md-dns.h to configure the Apache Managed Domains module to use the same remctld API to publish DNS-01 ACME challenge responses as that used by the x509 component. This will be rewritten in the near future and moved to the LCFG layer so please do not use it yet.

Apache Entra ID Authentication

The ed/options/apacheconf-entra-id.h header now adds a Systemd ExecStartPre script to create a self signed certificate if required before starting Apache. It emails the certificate to the Apache and system administrator email addresses ready to be added to the Entra ID app registration.

Software

There are some new software options available this week:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_QT53D – QT5 3D modules
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_QT53D_DEV – Development files for QT5 3D
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_QT5_DEV – Development files for QT5
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_OBS_STUDIO – recorder and streamer for live video content

There are also a couple of new options solely for Ubuntu Noble, additionally some options have been updated to depend on the new QT6 options.

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_QT6LIBS – Core libraries for QT6
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_PYQT6 – Python support for QT6
