Weekly Changes – 03/03/2025

A quiet week with few changes for most sites, here are the details of the notable changes…

Ubuntu Noble

A few small tweaks have been made to the desktop configuration, mostly to remove some Systemd services which are not needed by default on Noble.

In the same way as for firefox, the snap-based thunderbird packages have been replaced with native packages provided by the mozilla packaging team.

PostgreSQL

There are security updates for PostgreSQL 14.17, 15.12, 16.8 and 17.4. See this news article for full details of the changes.

Console Server

The LCFG conserver component has been ported to Ubuntu Noble. Note that the latest version of conserver has been compiled to natively support IPMI consoles.

InterNetNews

There is a new LCFG header – lcfg/options/inn2.h – which can be used to install the InterNetNews (inn2) software. Basic configuration of the Systemd service and logging is provided but there are no plans to add LCFG support for any other configuration of the service.

Software

There are some new software options this week:

  • LCFG_OPTIONS_INN2 – ‘InterNetNews’ news server
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_FWUPD – Firmware update daemon
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_POSTFIX – mail transport agent
  • LCFG_OPTIONS_KSTART – Kerberos kinit supporting AFS and ticket refreshing

Note that postfix is the default MTA on Ubuntu, the new option has been added solely to keep the dependencies of other options tidier.
