Weekly Changes – 18/03/2024
This week sees another selection of small fixes and improvements that will help users outside of Informatics. Here are the details of all the notable changes…
LCFG auditd component
A bug has been fixed in the LCFG template for the auditd.conf
configuration file. This bug resulted in the default configuration for Ubuntu being invalid which prevented the auditd service from starting.
Dell PowerEdge R6615
There is a new header – lcfg/hw/dell_poweredge_r6615.h – for the Dell PowerEdge R6615 server model.
lightdm
The home directory for the lightdm user is now created automatically when required. If that directory does not exist lightdm will fail to start.
Gimp dependencies
The gimp-help-en
package depends on the www-browser
virtual package. Due to the way that the LCFG soy utility processes dependencies on virtual packages this adds some peculiar packages onto a system, on Focal you get midori
and on Jammy you get wslu
. Neither of those are likely to be wanted so they are now explicitly removed in the overrides package lists.
VS Code
The VS code application for Ubuntu has been updated to the latest version.
Zoom
The Zoom application for Ubuntu has been updated to the latest version and is now installable on request by enabling the DICE_OPTIONS_ZOOM
package option.
Robot Operating System
The Robot Operating System (ROS) packages have all been updated to the latest versions for Ubuntu Jammy.
Software
There are 2 new package options for Ubuntu – LCFG_OPTIONS_QT5WEBKIT
and LCFG_OPTIONS_QT5WEBKIT_DEV
– which can be used to install the QT5 Webkit5 packages and dependencies. Lots of other package options have been modified to use those as dependencies so there has been considerable churn in the file. The header for phantomjs has also been updated to use that dependency which fixes an issue with missing dependencies.
