Weekly Changes – 26/06/2023

Our focus remains on upgrading servers to Ubuntu so the changes are mostly related to servers and the DICE environment. Here are the details of the notable changes…

Ubuntu Jammy

In the same way as for Focal, the dbus-user-session package has been removed from the standard DICE graphical environment. This avoids a bad interaction between OpenAFS and Systemd user sessions, see the systemd bug tracker for full details.

Hardware monitoring

The LCFG hardware monitoring utility (hwmon) now ignores any read-only mounts which are in the /run directory. This avoids an issue on Ubuntu Jammy where it was incorrectly reporting a problem with the /run/credentials/systemd-sysusers.service mount.

PostgreSQL

Some server option resources are now configured using the PG_OPTION macro (which takes the name of the option and the required value).

LCFG support for ancient versions of PostgreSQL – 8.4, 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5 – has been removed.

Tartarus

The DICE inventory system – Tartarus – will no longer reset the sub-location (e.g. rack/row) information if the new automatically-detected location is identical to what has already been set manually. See bug#3470 for details.

A minor bug in the way the ii utility handles the --barcode option (bug#3469) has been resolved.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
