Ubuntu Jammy Progress 4
The focus of the Jammy project has now moved on to testing of the various supported desktop models…
Hardware Support
For this project we are only targetting desktop models, we will move onto server hardware sometime in the summer. The following models have now been successfully installed:
- HP EliteDesk G3 (legacy boot)
- HP EliteDesk G4
- HP EliteDesk G5
- HP EliteDesk G6
- HP EliteDesk G9
Other than the G3 they are all configured to UEFI boot, we have not tested the other models with legacy boot support. They are all small form factor systems, the mini versions are typically considerably different and will be tested separately. The G5, G6 and G9 are all SSD based.
At this stage the aim was to test the installer and UEFI/legacy boot support so the installs were all done using a very minimal set of packages, the desktop environments will be tested soon.
Keyboard Configuration
The testing revealed a minor problem with the LCFG hardware component being unable to set the keyboard map using localectl. This is related to a longstanding Debian bug – #790955 – which means that localectl cannot find the console keyboard maps. To workaround this problem the hardware component will not attempt to change the console map if the current setting of the VC Keymap
option is n/a
(i.e. not available).
DNS Component
The LCFG dns component has been modified as the named-checkconf
utility has moved to /usr/bin
.
DICE Desktop
More packages have been auto-built for the DICE desktop environment, they have not yet been tested, it is expected that most will just work.
