Weekly Changes – 11/04/2022

At the LCFG level there are just a few minor changes this week, DICE SL7 users should note the final removal of the nsu utility. Here are all the details…

nsu

The nsu utility has been removed from the standard environment for ALL DICE SL7 machines. Where necessary it can be restored by including the dice/options/nsu.h header or by defining the DICE_OPTIONS_NSU_ENABLE macro at the top of an LCFG profile.

xfree and nvidia

The LCFG xfree component header is no longer included for Ubuntu profiles which use the nvidia headers. The xfree component is not required on Ubuntu and has never been ported so this silences some warnings.

dash preseed

The Ubuntu preseed setting for the dash package has been moved from dice to the LCFG level. This should mean that /bin/sh points to /bin/bash by default for new installs.

SL7.8 package lists

Since they haven’t been used for quite some time, the DICE package lists for SL7.8 have been removed.

DICE Checks

The lab checks now report on any SMART disk health problems.

Software Updates

On DICE Ubuntu the Visual Studio Code software has been updated to the latest version – 1.66.1

On SL7 a small number of packages from epel have been updated.

Changes to headers and package lists

Members of the Informatics Computing team can browse all the changes to the headers and package lists.
