Weekly Changes – 15/12/2021

The final release for 2021 is a fairly small one and most sites will notice little change beyond the usual collection of security updates. Here are the details…

Kernel

The INF_TEST kernel been updated to 5.4.0-91.102 on Ubuntu and 3.10.0-1160.49.1.el7 on SL7.

apache configuration

Work continues on support for configuring the Apache web server on Ubuntu. The apacheconf component has been updated to 1.4.0 which improves support but some work is still required, in particular to support configuring the /etc/apache2/envvars file. The default configuration now includes the basic list of modules (note this is not identical to SL7, it’s a somewhat smaller list) and corrects the standard log files location. The event MPM module has been chosen as the default which should suit the needs of most sites. The MPM module can be easily changed by using the LCFG_APACHECONF_MPM macro.

Singularity

The Singularity container software is now available for testing on DICE Ubuntu machines. It can be included in a profile with the dice/options/singularity.h header.

New Software

An LCFG_OPTIONS_MONGODB option has been added for Ubuntu which can be used to include the MongoDB – object/document-oriented database – and all of its dependencies. The server can be enabled by including the dice/options/mongodb-server.h header in a profile (or lcfg/options/mongodb-server.h for external sites).
