Weekly Changes – 28/07/2021

The main news this week is an updated kernel for SL7. Read on for the highlights of this week’s release.

SL7 Kernel

The INF and INF_TEST kernels for SL7.9 and SL7.8 are updated to 3.10.0-1160.36.2.el7. Machines on SL7.9 or SL7.8 should be rebooted to apply it.

PostgreSQL

The postgresql component has moved to schema version 5, to allow to proper support for GSSAPI-encrypted (as opposed to just authenticated) connections. Full details can be found in the man pages.

Note that you should make all netmasks explicit – either by affixing /nn to the IP or by setting the netmask value – rather than relying on deprecated default behaviour.

Improved reboot checks on Ubuntu

The LCFG client on Ubuntu and Debian has been updated to improve the checking and enforcing of reboots.

Firefox

This week’s SL7 security updates include an update of firefox to 78.12.0.

Java

For Ubuntu there’s now more control over the required version and distribution of Java. For details see include/lcfg/options/java.h and packages/lcfg/lcfg_ubu2004_options.pkgs.

Dell System Update

Support is completed for the rundsu command on Ubuntu (equivalent to dsu on SL7). The command updates firmware and BIOS on Dell servers.
