As I have noted before, a side effect of having been on the Helmsdale geology excursion with the geophysics students is that I can not walk past a sandstone wall without looking for examples of current bedding. Sometimes there are other things to be seen as well.
This block is in High School Yards and is part of one of the School of GeoSciences’ own buildings: it is part of a pillar holding up an arch under the rear wing of the Geography building in Drummond St. At some point in its history a small fault has displaced the right-hand side down by a few centimetres. (The block itself is about 28cm tall.) The faulting is presumably quite old as the two halves of the block are stuck together firmly enough for it to be cut, transported, and put into a building without it falling into two pieces.
