Free short online courses on environment and sustainability
It is our responsibility to live in a sustainable manner to ensure a better world for society to live in, warranting that the planet’s resources can be enjoyed for generations to come. The University of Edinburgh provides several free short online courses, and a significant number of these are related to the environment and sustainability. They are completely free to take, have absolutely no entry requirements, and are available completely online. Led by world-class academics and supported by teaching assistants, they typically require only 1-2 hours of study each week for around five weeks.
We proudly present to you two brand new courses relating to educational approaches to sustainability:
We developed these courses together with our esteemed partners British Council and Learning for Sustainability Scotland. These courses are aimed towards anyone interested in sustainability (which should be all of us!), but those working in academic or educational settings may particularly find these courses to be of value.
Join a personal and professional global learning journey towards a sustainable future. What on Earth could be more important? You’ll get to explore a range of global, community and school-based contexts and develop an informed personal response to major challenges, such as climate change and gender equality. This five-week course runs until January.
This 2-week course will be held in conjunction with COP26. Examine what COP26 is and why it’s important, and reflect on how you can add your voice to the call for collective action for a sustainable future. Course content will remain open, free and accessible as a resource for school, community and individual use beyond COP26.
We also have several other ongoing short courses:
Learn how to tackle climate change, the biggest challenge the world has faced in the 21st century.
Explore the technology that can provide a long-term solution to protect our atmosphere from an excess of carbon dioxide.
Learn about nitrogen’s vital role in human development, and how its misuse now threatens us. This course is also available in various other languages: Bengali, Dari, Hindi, Hungarian, Nepalese, Sinhalese and Urdu.
Practice and enhance your critical thinking skills while considering global challenges that affect us all. This course is no longer live but all the audio and video files from the course are still available.
