Open Education Week graphical banner

Open Education Week is fast approaching! The international celebration of all things open is taking place on 2 – 6 March, online and at schools, colleges and universities across the globe.  The theme this year is exploring the town square for open education and if you head over to the Open Education Week website you can browse the calendar of events and activities and discover a wide range educational resources and assets shared by the community.

Digital Skills for Staff Week

This year Open Education Week cooincides with our own Digitial Skills Design and Training’s Digital Skills for Staff Week and the OER Service is going two be running two workshops for University of Edinburgh Staff and postgraduate research students.

Diversifying the Curriculum with OER is a one hour seminar that highlights existing practices and resources that diversify the curriculum and encourage student co-creation and learning.  We’ll also explore and discuss the variety of ways in which creating, using, and sharing open educational practices and resources can help to diversify educational materials.

When: 2 March, 14.00- 15.00
Where: Online
Booking: Staff / Students

How to find and use Creative Commons licensed Open Educational Resources is a one hour information session where you’ll learn how to find Creative Commons licensed materials covering different subject areas and topics from a range of online archives, repositories, and websites. We’ll then look at how to re-use and adapt these materials as open educational resource for your own use.

When: 4 March, 14.00 – 15.00
Where: Online
Booking: Staff / Students

Sharing Research Informed OER

We’re also going to be sharing a collection of open educational resources that have been created by staff and students from the research outputs of the university’s academic researcher community. Creating OERs from current research is a great way to share research and innovation, encouraging public engagement, diversifying teaching materials and contributing to our shared knowledge commons.  Watch this space!
