A ‘Core condition/presentation’ tag has been added to around 100 different diseases and 100 common presentations. We chose which to badge based on appearance in usually at least two of the following:
- UK – the UK General Medical Council’s content map for its proposed national licensing examination.
- India – the undergraduate curriculum for the Indian medical graduate. Very detailed.
- US – 100 diagnoses most commonly appearing in the USMLE, from the University of Kansas (pdf) (resource page). You can also read USMLE’s own lengthier full description of content.
- WHO – priority infectious and non-communicable disease challenges, from WHO guidelines.
This leads to us flagging around 10% of entries as core. Of course many people have diseases that are not on this list, but often we have flagged parent conditions while leaving details of many ‘children’: so Glomerulonephritis is flagged, but not IgA nephropathy; Heart Failure is flagged, but not HOCM or Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
