Week 2
Daylight Factor
This week, we visited the Chapel of St Albert the Great in Edinburgh, Scotland, as we were tasked to calculate the daylight factor using a light metre app that detects and measures illuminance in lux.
The lecture highlighted how daylight and sunlight are different and how we have a temporary climate, so the daylight would frequently change. This was also demonstrated when we calculated the daylight factor at the Chapel of St Albert the Great. When we would measure the daylight in the same region more than once, depending on the time of day, the quantity of daylight measured would be different, and our readings and calculations would change as a result.
I worked in a group to measure the illuminance and calculate the daylight factor, and the results are shown in the image below.
Drawing The Light
After this, the next task was to draw different areas of the church and to only draw the light on black paper with white chalk or a different white medium. We were only asked to draw the light because the black paper would act as the shadows in the drawing.
The three images below are my drawings; two were drawn in chalk, and the more detailed one was drawn with a white pen.
