Week 9

We were visited by a company called Stoane Lighting, which is a Scottish lighting product manufacturer. They gave a presentation which discussed how their company tackles electrical waste and the circular economy. The luminaires they manufacture can be taken apart piece by piece; this way they can replace any faulty parts instead of throwing away the entire product, this way, they minimise waste which helps the circular economy and maximise efficiency. This also makes the manufacturing process a lot more cost-friendly not just for them, but customers too. The company makes long-lasting luminaires and many LED luminaires to help decrease the CO2 emissions created during the production of non-LED luminaires.

The company also brought in some luminaires and optics for us to look at, seen below.

Luminaire- outdoor light bulb

Exterior surface mounted light

Tuneable white LED panel+ Opal acrylic sheet

The opal acrylic sheet can diffuse the light, which makes the light soft and not too harsh. After seeing this light, I know that I want this type of luminaire to be incorporated in my project. As the LED panel is tuneable, I think this would be a good luminaire because you can change the colours of the light whenever you want.

Luminaire- Track light from ZTA

Luminaire- STOANE LIGHTING from ZTA 50 SURF
