Weekly Changes – 16/03/2026

Mostly changes for DICE this week, very little beyond the usual package updates for other LCFG users. Here are the few notable changes…

nagios

A bug has been fixed in the LCFG nagios code involved in receiving passive check reports. The code was opening the nagios command file for appending even when it didn’t exist. The nagios service expects to create the command file as a named pipe once the service is ready but if a file of the same name already exists it doesn’t complain. This meant that the passive checks appeared to be successfully received but were never processed by the nagios service.

Dell System Updater

For DICE Dell servers that are no subnets which cannot reach the external internet, it’s now possible to tell the weekly check script to go via the web cache. Just define the DICE_DSU_USE_PROXY macro at the top of an LCFG profile. It is currently still necessary to specify it on the command-line with the --proxy option for dsu when running it manually, we intend to provide a wrapper script to make this simpler.

DICE KVM services

We are in the process of overhauling and tidying the DICE KVM service headers. This intention is to incorporate all common functionality and make them easier to reuse wherever necessary.

Software

On DICE machines the attr package is now installed everywhere, this provides the getfattr and setfattr utilities for querying and setting extended attributes of filesystem objects.
