Are you looking for ways to focus on your academic writing and to progress on projects?
Did you know November is WriteFest2025?
WriteFest is an annual event that celebrates academic writing. It aims to give researchers space and time to focus on writing projects and is run by several different Universities for their researchers, to raise awareness of academic writing and the type of writing habits that you can adopt via writing retreats, writing workshops, etc.
For Writefest2025, we have several writing retreats, workshops, and resources for staff to support your academic writing.
- Writing Retreats – The aim of a structured writing retreat is to use dedicated writing time to progress writing projects in a supportive environment. Example projects include, book chapters, journal articles, research proposals and reports. Most of the time is used for writing, with everyone working on their own projects. During November, we are running morning and afternoon sessions (online and hybrid) and a full day writing retreat on 27th November, starting at 09:30 and finishing 16:30. With the full day writing retreat, participants are welcome to attend the whole day or just the morning or afternoon session, with the option to either leave or join at lunchtime. We are also running ‘Room to Write’ sessions – these sessions are not facilitated by the IAD but give our staff and students a dedicated room and space to write.
- Narrative CVs Writing Retreat – On the 26th November we will be running a Narrative CV writing retreat. The retreat is aimed at staff currently writing narrative CVs for career or research-related applications who wish to make progress on these. The writing retreat will give participants dedicated time to work on their narrative CVs in a supportive environment, with opportunities to discuss and get feedback from peers. Facilitators will provide a brief introduction to narrative CVs outlining their structures and possible content. There will be opportunities to ask questions of facilitators, to discuss issues with peers, and gain information on further resources and support. Participants will leave the retreat having made progress on their narrative CVs and have the confidence and resources to complete these on their own.
- Workshops – we have workshops for staff on collaborative writing or how to support PhD students with their academic writing skills.
- Writing resources – we offer guides for running your own writing retreat, and other support for writing.
