The 2021 hiring cycle within UK universities has been seriously affected with the impact of the global pandemic. However, if universities see strong student numbers in September then this might lead to more focussed hiring for teaching roles. It is therefore important to think about preparing your academic CV, ready to make applications when the market picks up.

The key point to consider is careful targeting of your applications. When you write an academic CV it is really important to think about how you present your experience. Put the most important things first and make a match between the skills that you have and what the role is asking for (this can be found in the job description and person specification). Remember that not every academic position advertised is the same – do your research! Consider what is the focus of the department and how your current research fits in as well as future research plans that you have to offer.
